Mark Law - Trumpet

Originally from Poole, Mark started playing the trumpet at ten. He joined the National Youth Orchestra at twelve, later becoming principal and winning the John Fletcher Prize for outstanding contribution to the orchestra. He attended Eton College on a music scholarship to study with Jim Wortley. After school he won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama to learn with John Miller. Whilst gaining a first class degree there he won the trumpet prize and the wind concerto prize, and was a member of both the European Union Youth Orchestra and World Youth Orchestra. Awards from the Countess of Munster, Caird and Fleming trusts enabled a postgraduate year at the Royal Academy of Music with Ian Balmain and John Wallace.

Mark has worked extensively with the majority of the UK's orchestras, as well as working for two years in the London production of “Phantom of the Opera”. He is a member of London City Brass and World Brass, with whom he has performed at venues including the Purcell Room and the Wigmore Hall. Recently Mark has played in Moscow and London as Principal Trumpet of the Academy of St Martins, and last week in the Proms with the BBC symphony orchestra for Mahler 2 and the Last Night of the Proms. This year he has recorded for films and Cds, including film scores for Marianelli and a work for Sir Paul McCartney. He has taught trumpet at Eton College for the past five years.
